Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue

Every horse has a story, let me tell you mine.

Every horses has a story, Let me tell you mine.

I never get tired of seeing the surprise on a cowboys face when he realizes that THESE ARE THE RESCUE HORSES. When we show up at an event or gathering cattle for a neighboring ranch we always use the rescue horses. Their preconceived ideas of what a "saved from slaughter" horse is, goes right out the window when we unload the well behaved, well trained horses that we ride. When these hardened ranchers show up at the Ranch to "see what we got" and start with the "what about that one?" I just say "yes that one too". Then it goes on to “but not that one?" I say "yup, that one too". It seems hard for them to wrap their brains around the fact that these are not all "throw away" horses. A lot of them are well trained, well bred, registered horses that were just lucky enough to be at the wrong auction at the wrong time. Big fat and healthy is what these slaughter buyers want and training does not matter to them.

When we walk out into the pasture or down the pipe corral isle it’s awful hard to picture any of these happy, healthy, friendly, relatively well adjusted horses being shipped to a slaughter plant. That is exactly where they were all headed.

I can't even explain what kind of intervention occurred to interrupt shipment to their grisly destination. Sometimes it was only seconds before the truck got there as was the case of the stunning palomino yearling quarter horse filly. Pulled out of the shipping pen with her little blanket still on her. (see Barbie in  photo) Too many close calls to mention for each and every one.

EVERY "saved from slaughter" horse was taken DIRECTLY out of the feedlot pen. This was an out of state horse feedlot that ships directly to the Canadian and Mexican Slaughter plants. It is not illegal to ship horses from other states to "out of Country" Slaughter plants.  These horses had no chance to be saved and no where else to go except to the Slaughter plants. When you meet them it is impossible to fathom that any of them deserved that horrible destiny. I will not link slaughter videos or pictures on my website. I won't go into the details of how the "processing" occurs at these plants. Let's just say that inhumane is not even close to how cruelly these trusting, loving pets are treated by the plant employees, owners and even the onsite Veterinarians.

There is a story in every horse’s heart and I hope to tell one for every horse that has crossed through our gates.

CHUBBS UPDATE!!!!!

Chubbs went thru surgery with flying colors and it was discovered that he had stepped on a nail or something in the past, that punctured the sole of his hoof and chipped the tip of his coffin bone. It was due to the outstanding job of many dedicated people that he will recover completely from his injury. I will be listing the names, addresses and contact information in upcoming updates on Chubbs.

He will be able to come back to the ranch soon to complete his recovery soon. He is being cared for at the California Equine Podiatry Center near Santa Ynez Calif.

AS YOU CAN SEE CHUBBS IS NONE THE WORSE FOR WEAR. HE HAS THIS REALLY COOL REMOVABLE PAD SO THAT WE CAN TREAT HIS SURGICAL SITE. HE IS REALLY DOING WELL AND SHOULD BE GOING BACK TO HIS ADOPTERS IN ANOTHER WEEK OR SO.  THEY ARE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING HIM BACK IN THEIR BARN AND TO START THEIR LIVES WITH HIM AGAIN. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE HELP, SANTA LUCIA VETERINARY HOSPITAL, SANTA YNEZ. CALIFORNIA EQUINE PODIATRY CENTER, SANTA YNES ,  AND THE DONATORS THAT HELPED WITH HIS VET COSTS.  REDWINGS HORSE SANCTUARY, LOCKWOOD CA. AND AN VERY SPECIAL DONOR THAT WANTS TO REMAIN UNNAMED.    THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH, WITHOUT YOU WE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS SPECIAL GUY THE CARE THAT HE SO DESPERATELY NEEDED SO QUICKLY.

Hi;
As most of you know I don't usually ask for help with the horses, but this time its different.
One of the sweetest rescued horses had been a bit off in his left front for a few weeks. Even though he was off, he grabbed the heart of one of the many prospective adopters that comes to visit us here. He had been really sound since he got here and he had just gotten him feet trimmed, so we assumed that he would be fine. He was adopted to a really great guy that loves him dearly. He had laid him off for a few weeks and he still remained slightly off. Suddenly he became totally non weight bearing on that foot and his new adopted Dad called the vet. She took Xrays and it appears that he has a small bone infection in his coffin bone. He has a very small half thumbnail sized piece of his coffin bone that had been eroded away appearently from the infection. There is no way to know how this happened but it is EXTREMELY important that it be taken care of, surgically right away before the bone continues to erode.

His new Dad absalutley could not afford the estimated 2,000.00 that it may take for this simple but costly proceedure. He is bringing him back for me to care for and if he is restored, he desperately wants him back. Chubbs condition has nothing to do with his care from his adopted Dad nor care the he recieved here, but it is "just something that happens"

Please, if you could donate for his care and the surgery, I would really appriciate any help that I can. I am going to try to get over to my vet Monday.
If you can donate please Paypal your dontations with note that it is for Chubbs care.

BROKE HORSES AVAILABLE See Available horses

THESE HORSES ARE TRAINED TO VARIOUS LEVELS. ALL ARE UNDER SADDLE AND HAVE BEEN RIDDEN. WE DO NOT EVER REPRESENT ANY HORSE AS A KIDS HORSE NOR A BEGINNERS HORSE. WE MAY HAVE A HORSE THAT YOU OR YOUR CHILD IS CAPABLE OF RIDING, BUT THAT DECISION IS UP TO YOU. IF WE FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO TRY OR RIDE ANY HORSE THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN, WE WILL MAKE SUGGESTIONS FOR LESSONS OR MORE TRAINING FOR THE HORSE.

WE HERE AT VALLEY VIEW RANCH ARE ADVANCED HORSE PEOPLE AND GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO ATTAIN A SAFE AND CALM ANIMAL THRU NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP AND HERD DYNAMIC MANAGEMENT.

OUR HORSES ARE PROFESSIONALLY STARTED, IF NOT TRAINED WHEN AQUIRED. IF ALREADY TRAINED UPON ARIVAL, EVERY EFFORT TO FIND ANY "HOLE" IN THEIR BEHAVIOR IS MADE,NOTED AND RETRAINING BEGINS. FINISH TRAINING BEGINS IMMEDIATELY  AFTER THEIR QUARATINE TIME IS ACCOMPLISHED.

PLEASE INQUIRE ABOUT LEVEL OF TRAINING AND BE TRUTHFULL ABOUT YOUR LEVEL OF RIDING.

COLTS, FILLYS AND UNSTARTED HORSES

THESE HORSES ARE ALL HALTER BROKE, GENTLE AND EASY TO BE AROUND. THE COLTS AND FILLYS ARE MOSTLY READY TO START OR HAVE HAD SOME GROUND WORK DONE. THE OLDER MARES WERE MOSTLY BROOD MARES AND THEIR TRAINING IS UNKNOWN. SOME ARE REGISTERED.

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THESE NICE PROSPECTS, PASTURE ORNAMENTS AND PASTURE BUDDIES. SOME HAVE ADOPTION FEES WAVED FOR THE RIGHT HOME.
